Casino hotels, described as hotels

The entries

These are full-service hotels first. Each has a gaming floor as one of its facilities, sitting alongside restaurants, guest rooms, conference space and, in several cases, a theatre that draws more visitors than the tables do. The descriptions below cover the property as a whole: what the building is, where it stands and what staying there involves.

01
  • Expo 67 pavilion
  • Île Notre-Dame
  • Gaming floor over several levels

Montreal Casino & Hotel

The Montreal property is unusual among casino hotels in that its main structure was never built for gambling at all: the core is the former French pavilion from Expo 67, a faceted aluminium-clad tower on Île Notre-Dame, joined later to the Québec pavilion next door. Hotel accommodation, restaurants and event space sit alongside a gaming floor distributed over several levels of the old exhibition building. The island setting keeps the property separate from downtown, reached by bridge, with the river and parkland on all sides. Visitors come for the architecture as often as for the tables.

02
  • Niagara escarpment site
  • Rooms facing the falls
  • Theatre and conference space

Fallsview Casino Resort

Fallsview is a large resort hotel built into the escarpment above Niagara Falls, and its entire plan is organised around the view. Guest rooms on the upper floors face the cataract directly; public rooms, restaurants and a substantial theatre are stacked to take advantage of the same orientation. The gaming floor is one department among many in a building that also functions as a conference venue and a concert hall. Its position means the property is busy year-round, with the falls themselves lit after dark.

03
  • Richmond, on the Fraser
  • Marina and show theatre
  • Airport-adjacent

River Rock Casino Resort

River Rock stands on the Fraser River in Richmond, minutes from Vancouver International, with a marina at its edge and a show theatre that books touring acts through the year. The hotel side runs to several hundred rooms across two buildings, supported by a spread of restaurants and a large banquet operation. Gaming occupies a defined floor rather than spilling through the public areas. Its proximity to the airport and to the rail line into central Vancouver makes it as much a transit-adjacent hotel as a destination one.

04
  • Rural Ontario setting
  • Owned by Chippewas of Rama First Nation
  • Entertainment amphitheatre

Casino Rama Resort

Casino Rama sits on Chippewas of Rama First Nation land near Orillia, well outside any city, which gives it the character of a self-contained resort rather than an urban hotel. The property combines guest rooms, a spa, a spread of restaurants and a large entertainment venue that has long been its public face, with the gaming floor forming one part of the whole. Surrounding country is lake and forest, and a good share of guests treat the hotel as a base for that rather than an end in itself.
