About Blue Peak Socials

Blue Peak Socials is an independent editorial index of hotels. It covers sixteen properties, grouped into four categories — art hotels, capsule hotels, casino hotels and ice hotels — and it describes each one in prose rather than reducing it to a score.

Why these four categories

Each of the four represents a different answer to the same question: what is a hotel room actually for? The art hotel makes the building itself the reason to come. The capsule hotel strips the room back to a berth and puts the investment into what is shared. The casino hotel is a large, mixed-use property where accommodation is one department among several. The ice hotel is rebuilt from scratch every winter and gone by spring.

Read side by side, they make an interesting argument with each other. That is the whole editorial idea behind the site, and it is the reason the index has stayed small rather than growing into a directory of everything.

What we do not do

We do not sell rooms. We do not hold inventory, quote rates, check availability or take a commission on a reservation booked elsewhere. There are no star ratings on this site, no user reviews and no ranked lists, because we would rather describe a building accurately than pretend four hundred different stays can be averaged into a number.

How entries are written

Each entry covers what the property is, where it stands, how it came to be built that way and what a stay there involves in practical terms. We stick to general, durable characteristics — structure, setting, layout, the shape of the offering — rather than details that change with the season or the management.

Hotels change. Wings are added, collections rotate, ice melts on schedule. Where something described here no longer matches what you find on arrival, the hotel is the authority and we are not.
